Last fall, Stand Together, a philanthropic community the Charles Koch Foundation (CKF) is part of, partnered with Forbes to highlight the importance of lifelong learning and the value it provides to individuals, employers, and our society. This piece was originally published on that platform.

Employers want to access new sources of talent, but sometimes struggle to know where to begin when it comes to assessing the skills and aptitudes of the people in these untapped talent pools. This leaves individuals behind and makes it hard for them to contribute.

Cara Collective (Cara) helps employers overcome this challenge by leveraging their work providing hands on experience to individuals experiencing poverty and homelessness in their social enterprises. Cara helps equip these individuals with the skills and confidence they need to succeed in a work setting. By highlighting the strengths and dignity of each person, Cara helps employers identify their potential, as well as their ability to contribute.

In the latest episode of his podcast, The Future of Education, Charles Koch Foundation partner Michael Horn sits down with Kathleen St. Louis Caliento, the president and CEO of Cara Collective, to discuss what it looks like to empower individuals by connecting them to local career opportunities where they can succeed, and the impact that has on an individual’s life as well as an employer’s bottom-line. Check out the full conversation below.
