Economics Club at Ball State University Hosts Lecture on Karl Marx
Scholar Peter Mentzel recently gave a lecture on Karl Marx to students in Ball State University’s Economics Club. In preparation for the lecture, students had read passages from The Communist Manifesto.
Faculty adviser Cecil Bohanon described the event as a “convivial setting” in which students were free to discuss and debate Marx’s ideas while showing a mutual respect for the opinions of others.
Rather than focusing on one ideology, the Economics Club allows students to discuss a wide range of thoughts and ideas. Bohanon believes that this is one thing a university education should be about: engaging with different and occasionally controversial ideas in an attempt to understand them.
